Dear valued partner,
Years of civil war, extreme poverty and the outbreak of Ebola in 2014 have disrupted the West African country Liberia. Education is not accessible for many children, especially for girls. With your contribution Hoogwegt donated for their 50th anniversary €111.500,- to Save the Children, which gave 120 girls between the age of 6 and 18 access to drop-in centers in Liberia for at least half a year. Our colleagues Ferdinand Reus and Yore van Straelen visited the project in Montserrado County, Liberia and saw the positive impact of the Leela project on the lives of these girls with their own eyes. On behalf of the Leela girls, we would like to thank you for the support of the project.
Michel van Woesik
CEO Hoogwegt Group
Girls in Liberia have limited chances to shape their own future. Years of civil war, extreme poverty and the Ebola outbreak in 2014 deprived them of a future. Most girls don’t go to school and sexual violence ends a girl’s childhood due to teenage pregnancy. Save the Children’s drop-in centres for girls provide perspective for girls between 4 and 18 years old. The team of Save the Children provides accelerated primary education and vocational training. The drop-in centres provide more than just knowledge of language and math; social skills, child rights and sexual reproductive healthcare are also part of the curriculum.
Since the opening of the centres, more than 583 girls have been able to shape their own future. The loving care of the Save the Children staff has enabled them to attend the formal school system or to open their own business.
The partnership with Hoogwegt provides Save the Children the opportunity to continue empowering girls in Liberia. Their contribution gives the teams of two of the drop-in centres the chance to keep the doors open at least another 6 months. Therefor, 120 vulnerable girls who have been deprived of a future receive a chance for a better life. By following Hoogwegt’s generous example, you can make a change for girls. Please donate to NL41 ABNA 051 375 333 8 (BIC ABNANL2A) and make a difference in a girl’s life.
